Cairo’s World Urban Forum witnessed a powerful session with the One UN Roundtable, where leaders converged to drive collaborative efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. With participants from the UN, development banks, and national governments, the roundtable tackled the complex challenge of localizing SDG initiatives and closing critical financing gaps for communities around the globe.

Key speakers, like UNDP’s Haoliang Xu, highlighted the need for local authorities to have a voice in international financing. Concrete successes, like Ghana’s 17% tax resource increase through UN collaboration, showcased the impact of strengthening local financial autonomy. UN-Habitat’s Executive Director, Anáclaudia Rossbach, emphasized the organization’s commitment to engaging with financial institutions to further the New Urban Agenda and support sustainable urban development.

The roundtable closed with an inspiring call to elevate the role of women in sustainable development, underscoring that true progress relies on inclusive, locally driven solutions.
