SONGYANG, CHINA, 29TH OCTOBER 2023
UN-Habitat continues to play its convenor role, fostering collaboration across different levels of governance. Through global platforms as the International Forum on Urban-Rural Linkages (IFURL), various stakeholders are brought together to share knowledge, experiences, and lessons and significantly, establish partnerships towards sustainable development.
Along the sidelines 3rd edition of IFURL, Songyang County, the host of the forum, and Nyamira County, Kenya, signed a letter of intent for friendly relations on areas of common interest such as agriculture, rural tourism and nature. In addition, the planned collaboration will facilitate regular discussions on common issues and promote the development and prosperity of the two places.
In his remarks, Remy Sietchiping, UN-Habitat, mentioned that although Songyang County and Nyamira County are in different corners of the world, they have many similarities. It is anticipated that the two counties will further exchange, learn and share experiences for social, economic and environmental benefits.
Wang Fan, Lishui municipal government, pointed out that the two counties have a very broad space for cooperation in areas such as tea farming, culture and rural development. While referencing the long and ongoing China-Kenya relations at the national level, she hoped that the two counties would use these friendly relations for mutual benefit.
