Korea National Urban Policy Programme 2019 Knowledge Exchange Visit Report

The National Urban Policy Programme (NUPP) remains a pivotal tool towards promotion and achievement of transformative, inclusive, green, productive and resilient urban development. NUP has done this through shared responsibility and deliberate consultation between UN-Habitat and respective countries globally. This joint initiative aims at contributing to the successful implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA) to achieve sustainable and prosperous human settlements for all as NUP supports countries with tools and knowledge to undertake the NUP process.

The aim of this initiative is to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 11- Sustainable Cities and Communities which by extension enable attainment of the other 16 SDGs. This report gives a narrative view of the exchange visit that took place in the Republic of Korea between 16th to 22nd June 2019 as organized by UN-Habitat, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). Participants to the exchange visit were representatives from the three countries and UN-Habitat. The pilot phase covers three countries; I.R. Iran, Myanmar and Niger State in Nigeria, supported by the Republic of Korea and UN-Habitat. The main goal of the report is to inform policy makers, urban professionals, and key stakeholders of the proceedings of the exchange visit in line with the three main accomplishments expected from the NUPP pilot phase namely; augmentation of policymakers’ capacity, knowledge sharing and peer learning, and preparing action plan to fast-track project
implementation in respective countries. The report further outlines activities of the exchange program which included; progress briefing for the three countries, results and
accomplishments, comprehensive evaluation and training outcomes, press adverts, budget execution, conclusion and next steps. Of interest to note are the nine site visits made by the participants in selected venues for benchmarking.

This report is a co-creation of the Republic of Korea, UN-Habitat, I.R. Iran, Myanmar and Niger State in Nigeria who are the key implementors of the project.
