Dissemination of Outcomes from the Project – Strengthening URL in Niger State
Evidence has shown that urban and rural areas in Niger State are inextricably linked. However, despite the array of benefits of such interactions, many territories are yet to enjoy certain socio-economic benefits. This is particularly true for rural areas where there is a high prevalence of poverty, inequality, declining returns on agriculture for rural farmers, a lack of basic facilities and infrastructure, and a declining quality of life. In order to bridge this development gap, the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat) through the United Nations Development Account (UNDA) project, is currently assisting Niger State alongside other African countries (Cameroon, Guinea Conakry, Zanzibar - Tanzania) in building and strengthening capacities of policy makers to collect and collate reliable data and formulate strategies, policies, and plans that promote Urban-Rural Linkages.
