County Spatial Planning Course Training Report 1 & 2

Land is inelastic yet has many competing uses which in some cases are in conflict. To achieve organized, integrated, sustainable and balanced development and reap maximum benefits from land, it must be properly managed. County spatial plans provide not only a spatial structure that defines how land could be utilized to ensure optimal and sustainable use, but also provides a guide for development planning for the counties. However, weak technical capacities and lack of appropriate technical skills continue to slow down the spatial plans development process. The report is timely for county governments in Kenya, given their requirement by the County Governments Act 2012 to set out basic guidelines for land use management system in the county and the need to further articulate and propagate physical planning policies as spelt out in the Kenya National Spatial Plans (2015-2045) which details the national spatial vision to guide the long term spatial development of the country for the next 30 years.
