About the Conference
The accelerating process of urbanisation is acknowledged today as a crucial and complex policy issue, and for which the repercussions go beyond traditional city boundaries into national and global concerns. The challenges of climate resilience or vulnerability, environmental sustainability or degradation, social equity or turmoil, economic competitiveness or decline, all converge in urban areas, and involve a variety of actors from all levels of government, civil society and communities, and domestic and foreign businesses. There is an urgent need for innovative solutions in urban policy making which would chart the way for better urban future for all.
The Third International Conference on National Urban Policy would serve as a platform to discuss how innovations could be critical for urban policies that would support climate-resilient urban environments that are risk-sensitive to land use, urban infrastructure, industries, mobility and housing. There would be an opportunity to showcase country-specific case studies, innovative approaches and tools, emerging knowledge on urban policy.

Practical Information
Is there a fee to attend the conference?
Most international flights to the country arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport which is in Nairobi. Specifically, it is the Embakasi suburb which is 15 kilometers southeast to Nairobi’s central business district and 25 kilometers from the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Gigiri.
Airport transfer and getting to the UN
Most hotels are able to arrange airport transfer upon booking a room. If staying in a guesthouse or other form of accommodation, taxis from Jomo Kenyatta International
Airport to Gigiri are readily available, costing between 2,000 and 3,000 KES (depending on time of day, day of the week, and driver). Uber is also a convenient way to arrive safe to your place of stay.
There are two UN travel agents at the UN complex, BCD Travel Agency and Express Travel. They will be open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. BCD Travel Agency (Tel.: 254-20-7622349/2389/2390/2) is located at the Lower Concourse, next to the Kenya Commercial Bank, whereas Express Travel Agency (Tel.: 254-20-7623824) is located at the Upper Concourse opposite the main cafeteria. You may wish to contact them for all your travel needs: return bookings, tours and safaris, airport transfers, etc.
Sponsored participants will stay at Comfort Gardens, 2 km from the United Nations Headquarters. Breakfasts are covered for sponsored participants in the hotel. Airport pickup and drop-off services will also be provided by the hotel.
For non-sponsored participants:
There are many options for accommodation in Nairobi. Due to Nairobi’s heavy peak-hour traffic, we recommend that you stay in areas relatively close to the UN Compound in Gigiri. To get cheaper prices, we recommend that you book your hotel at least three (3) weeks in advance.

Venue
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is one of four major United Nations office sites where numerous different UN agencies have a joint presence. Established in 1996, it is the UN’s headquarters in Africa. The complex of buildings is located next to the Karura Forest in the Gigiri district of Nairobi, along United Nations Avenue. It stands across the street from the US Embassy in Kenya. The UN complex contains a ‘green’ building, a completely energy and carbon-neutral building, housing UNEP and UN-Habitat offices.
